Mission: S1, E1: Uprising
Location: Ready Room
Timeline: MD006 1300 hrs

Adria was a little worried, it had been a few days, and she had gotten no responses from the Klingons. She was told this was to be expected. "I think they are ignoring our hails." Adria said, as she looked over to her first officer Harley Jackson.

“It could be a test,” Harley replied. “To see how you will react to their snub.” He thought for a moment. “It is also possible they have an issue where they cannot contact us and could use our assistance.”

"I dont't think so, I have to wonder if they even care about opening up a dialogue." Adria asked. Diplomacy was never a strong suit for the Klingons. Adria knew her chief engineer was trying to set this up. She knew most klingons loved to fight. Most did not care to express feelings, or talk things out.

“They more than likely don’t,” Harley agreed with her. “I would think they wouldn’t be blatant about it since we are supposed to be working on our rocky relations with them but they aren’t really bothered by being difficult.”

"I think we need to practice the better part of patience. I will admit though, it is not easy sitting around and waiting." Adria pointed out to her first officer.

“I agree,” Harley nodded after a moment of thinking. “They May be sitting there hoping we will insult them and give them cause to say we started something.” He sighed. “You’re right it isn’t the easiest thing to do.”

"I hate sitting around, but we do what we must." Adria suggested, looking for support in her feelings.

“This is the right thing to do,” Harley added. “It is why you are sitting in the captains chair. You carefully weigh the situation out and make the best call.”

"Sucking up are we?" Adria said, in a teasing manner. She appreciated the comment non the less. And she loved the fact, that he was on her side.

Harley laughed at her words. “I have been called a lot of things but suck up isn’t one of them.” He shook his head. “Just wait until I don’t agree and you put me in the corner.”

"I look forward to those days as well." Adria said, with a grin. "We will need to be able to express ourselves, even if we dont agree. All I ask, is that once I made up my mind, that you follow out my orders." Adria said to him, hoping he would be able to do that.

“You have my word,” Harley said seriously. “It is enough that I am allowed to give you my opinion for consideration.”

"That's all I need." Adria said, with a warm hearted smile on her face. "And yes, I encourage you to give your opinion. Someday, you will be the Captain, and you will want your first officer, giving you their opinions. Help mold them to tomorrow's captain." Adria said, hoping that made sense to him.

Harley smiled at her. “In a way I can’t wait but I know I am not ready for that step. I have a lot to learn from you.”

"I have a feeling, we have a lot to learn from each other." Adria said, with a humbling smile on her face.

“I believe we are always learning,” Harley said seriously. “That is another reason I know you are good at what you do. I have served under command that felt they knew it all and there was nothing left for them to discover.”

"I will admit this to you, being a Captain does not mean the learning is complete. There will be things you and the others under my command will teach me. And I look forward to it." Adria said, with a big grin on her face.

“When I took this position I was scared,” Harley admitted. “I felt like a fish out of water but I was in the right place at the right time, my confidence has grown a lot already.”

"It's not an easy leap, I would be lying if I said, I was not scared the first day I became a First Officer." Adria pointed out to him.

“You come across as confident and certain no matter what we are up against.” Harley commented. “That is something I have concentrated on. I remember you mentioning that at our first meeting.”

"You need to show confidence to those you serve with, if you don't they will walk all over you." Adria pointed out to him.

“I have learned that,” Harley nodded. “They seek answers in your eyes and your manner to see if you are questioning yourself.”

"I think any good leader, is always questioning their actions. How else can we learn from them." Adria pointed out.

“See these are the things I learn that are invaluable,” Harley said with a smile. “To question yourself but not let others see is a talent.”

"I suppose it is." Adria said, with a big grin on her face.

Harley liked to see her smile. The captain had a lot on her plate and he felt it was good to discuss things not so stressful at times. “You can tell me to mind my own business if you want but are you still seeing the cook?”

"Perhaps, why do you ask?" Adria asked, wondering why he was bringing up this topic.

“Curiosity from a friend,” Harley said, choosing to be honest. “You two seemed to have hit it off rather well.”

"I have taken a fancy to him. Something about him, that brings a smile to my face. And he is one of the few I can date, so a win-win all ways considered." Adria pointed out to Harley.

“Good!” Harley said with a smile. “Everyone needs some personal time, even the captain. Helps you refresh and truly relax.”

"I could not agree more Number One, have you met him?" Adria asked, wondering if she should introduce them.

“Only when he briefly asked me about your favorite dessert,” Harley admitted with a smile. “Now it’s on the menu.”

"I am pretty sure he would do that for anyone on the team." Adria pointed out to Harley.

Harley grinned. “He might add it to the menu on occasion but not available everyday like yours is.” He smiled. “The man is smitten.”

"I am pretty taken by him too, how is the crew handling it?" Adria asked, wondering if they were okay with the Captain seeing the chef.

“Honestly,” Harley grinned. “They think that you look good together. There isn’t a lot of gossip going on but the occasional comment has been positive.”

"You know that you an Andrea Winston look good together too. Sometime soon, we should have a meal together. Perhaps dinner." Adria asked, with a smile on her face.

“That would be fun,” Harley said with a smile. “Andrea would like to get together i am sure.”

"Talk to her, then get back to me on that." Adria said, as she made a mental note, to talk to Miles about a double date.

“I am seeing her after work,,” Harley nodded. “I will speak with her then but I know she will agree.” Still, it was best to ask her.

"Thanks. I will do the same." Adria said, as the scene starts to fade away.

Harley nodded and hoped that Miles was on board for a get together.
