S1, E1: Uprising
Location: Mess Hall
Timeline: MD004 1730 hrs
Gregory walked into the mess hall. He was bored out of his mind. He had been thinking all day, about coming to the lounge, and relaxing. But now that he was here, he found it was hard to relax, when you had no one to relax with.
He debated about asking Jessica to come with him, but he did not want to scare her, or come on to strong. He looked around the room, and noticed Harley. "Hello Commander." Gregory called out.
Harley looked up and smiled. “Lieutenant. You meeting up with someone? If not feel free to join me.”
"Thank you Commander." Gregory said, with a big grin on his face. "Are you expecting anyone sir?" Gregory asked, trying to make small talk?
“I was hoping to see Andrea, come in,” Harley said with a smile. “But she has plans with Lieutenant Scott. Have a seat, if they show up they can join us if they want.”
"Thank you Sir, I appreciate that." Gregory said, with a big gin on his face. He was happy, that he did not have to eat alone.
“How are things going for you?” Harley asked him. “You all settled in? “
"Yes sir, and you?" Gregory asked, with a big grin on his face. Gregory had unpacked, the nights were still a little rough, being new to the Pioneer did not help, they had only been on for a couple of days.
“Change in ship and a new crew takes some getting used to,” Harley said speaking from experience. “I came on as security chief and before I knew it I was first Officer. “
"I heard the Romulan's re called our last first officer, without reason. That was a little confusing." Gregory said, wondering if Harley, would make any further comments on the matter.
“They did,” Harley nodded. “It was all of a sudden and out of the blue. We had no warning.”
"I have no idea why they did that, but their recall, is your gain, well hell the crew's gain. They really like you, sir." Gregory said, with a big grin. He liked Harley, he was easier to talk too.
“I want to be approachable,” Harley said in reply. “I realize that it isn’t of the norm with a lot of command staff but this is who I am.”
"I can not help but wonder, if it had to do with our trip to near the Klingon Borders." Gregory said, hoping he was not out of line, for saying that.
“It could be,” Harley nodded. “You know how command is, they put us on a need to know basis.” He took a drink. “I think there is some truth to that though.”
"I sometime wonder, if this need to know basis, is counter productive to what we are trying to accomplish out here." Gregory said, as he looked over to Harley.
“I am in agreement on that,” Harley nodded. “The reality is though when we are far from home they won’t influence us all that much. We will be making some split second decisions at times.”
"Do you think, we will be able to pull it off. Things seem pretty dicey with the Empire. They are not happy we established New Vulcan." Gregory pointed out to his first officer.
“Yes,” Harley replied with conviction. “We definitely will. We have excellent crew and with Captain Solwick leading us we will prevail. She plays to win.”
"She is a good captain indeed." Gregory said, as he took a sip from his drink. "And the Pioneer is a good ship, brand new and state of the art." Gregory commented, hoping to keep the conversation going.
“Where were you before you came here?” Harley asked. “My last assignment was nothing as good as this.”
"Earth Space Dock, was annalyst. I was getting reports from all of our strategic operations chief attached to vessels, and getting uptodate data on ship placements of our enemies and allies." Gregory pointed out, he was not allowed to go into details. But he assumed Harley would understand.
“Understood,” Harley nodded. There would always be things that couldn’t be shared. “On a lighter note, If you play poker there is a poker night on Tuesday if you want to come and join us.”
"I would like that, Sir." Gregory said, with a big smile on his face. He liked the idea of getting to know the first officer, a little better.
"I am a bit unorthodox for a first officer," Harley replied with a smile. "I know that everyone thinks of me that way but when Iplay poker I am just another person at the table."
"So far to me sir, you seem pretty down to earth." Gregory said, hoping not to offend his first officer. He really thought Harley was a pretty cool, down to earth type of guy.
“That is my aim,” Harley smiled widely. “I will be tough when I need but I want to be approachable. No matter how bad an issue I will be here.”
"What more can we ask for, in a good first officer." Gregory said, feeling a like a kiss up. That was not his intentions, when he said it. But after saying it, he sure felt that way.
“I am hoping not much,” Harley admitted. “What you see is what you get.”
"I believe we are in good hands then." Gregory said, as the scene starts to fade away.
